Vaughan Makes South Africa Bat Again

England again produced some great Cricket and had the best of day three of the 1st test against South Africa as wickets fell regularly throughout the day due to some excellent bowling and first class fielding including an outstanding catch by Jimmy Anderson.

Monty Panesar also made an impact with the ball as many people expected taking 4-74 and he will no doubt emerge as a key player for England in the remainder of this match and the series.

Although South Africa are following-on it is by no means certain that England will win and the precedent set by Sri Lanka in 2006 at Lord's when they posted a 500 plus total to save the match will give Graeme Smith and his team encouragement it is worth noting also that after initially being written off that Sri Lankan team then went on to draw that 2006 test series 1-1.

Lord's usually has the effect of inspiring the opposing team which has not happened in this match yet but the question was always how quickly the South Africans could adjust to playing in English conditions.
